THE LEGEND OF THE MOORS’ HEADS.
We have to go back to the XI century, during the Moors domination in Sicily.
Once upon a time there was a beautiful Sicilian young lady that used to spend a lot of time on her balcony because she loved taking care of her plants.
One day a charming Moor man passed in front of her house and looked up at the balcony. As soon as their eyes met, it was love at first sight.
And hence began their love story. It was a joyful story until she had discovered that he already had a wife and children who were waiting for him in his land, the far Middle East.
Blinded by jealousy, she cut off his lovers’ head while he was sleeping.
She decided to use his head as a pot to grow a basil plant so that he was always with her.
Many tears rolled down his cheeks every day and the basil plant became beautiful.
Anyone who walked under her balcony could not help but envy that beautiful pot and that lush plant. So they began creating colorful clay head pots hoping to have the same beautiful balcony as her.
